Exonerate Me

By Rory A.A. Hinton

Gord Downie

A few years ago I saw The Tragically Hip at The GM Centre in Oshawa, Ontario. My seat was located on the second level, stage left. When the Hip ripped into "Fully Completely", I started dancing. After Downie sang "Bring me back in shackles/And hang me long out in the sun/Exonerate me/Then forget about me" near the end of the song, a single white spot light shone upon me. As I continued to dance Gord noticed. He looked at me, smiled, politely nodded, danced with me in unison, and then returned to what he does best. He exonerated me. This is enough.

Thank you Gord.
